Q: What kind of cosmetics do you use?
A: We are currently the exclusive carriers and retailers of Joe Blasco Cosmetics in the greater San Antonio area. The product was developed for photography and film, which means it covers incredibly well without looking or feeling heavy. Due to the fact that it has more pigment in it than other cosmetics on the market, it will not separate under humid conditions, which is essential in South Texas. The eyeliner and mascara are waterproof, so that it will not run if you cry while your husband is slipping the ring on your finger.

Q: Do you allow me to bring in my own make-up?
A: Of course, we will use any make-up you like. However, we will not guarantee how it will photograph. As long as you understand that we are happy to work with any products you bring in.

Q: How does the make-up stay on?
A: We use a waterproof sealant when we are done applying the make-up to ensure your face will stay on throughout the evening. This means through sweat, tears and humidity - your face will not go anywhere!

Q: What is a "Trial Consultation" for make-up?
A: A "Trial Consultation" is the most essential part of the process. First, we sit down and discuss your wedding. We ask a series of questions from "What is the color scheme of the bridal party?" to "What do you wear, in terms of make-up, on a daily basis?" We at Madame Make-up believe make-up is very personal. For this reason, gaining an understanding of the concept of the wedding as well as a feel for your personality is a must. We then begin a full make-over - from foundation matching, to contouring, to selecting eye shadow palettes. When we are done, you critique the work and we keep changing it until you are completely satisfied. We document all the product used and take pictures. This way for your bridal portrait or your wedding day, we know what to deliver and you know exactly what to expect. The trial consultation also gives you the opportunity to change your mind. What you may have picked out and loved at the consultation, may not be the right look, after all. But the only way to know this is to wear it for a while. When you come back in for the bridal portrait you can say, "let's try a different lip-color", or "Maybe we should go lighter on the eyes". We can change anything, but better that you change your mind before the portrait, than to look back with regrets.

Q: How long does the Trial Consultation for the make-up take?
A: Generally, it runs 45 minutes to an hour and a half. The make-up will take longer on this day, because we are going through the selection process and trying several different looks.

Q: How much does a trial consultation for the make-up cost?
A: $50

Q: What is a "Trial Consultation" for hair?
A: It is much like the consult for make-up, expect that we are working with your hair. We encourage our brides to bring in pictures of styles that they like. Whether it be from magazines, or the internet, pictures can give our stylist great direction. If you can’t find something you like, then we have a book of hair styles (from previous clients) that you can go through to get some ideas. Once you and the stylist have a strong idea of the direction you are wanting to go, they will then try it and see how you like it on yourself. The stylist may make suggestions based on your hair length and texture, or even what will frame your face the best. Please assert yourself and let them know if they are going in a direction you like or not. They want to make you happy, but need your brutal honesty to accomplish the hair you want for your wedding day.

Q: How long does the trial consultation for the hair take?
A: It usually takes about the same time for the hair consult as it does for the make-up consult, which is anywhere from 45 minutes to and hour and a half. Sometimes based upon which styles you are interested in trying it may take longer than the make-up. Either way, give us at least two hours for the trial consultation for both hair and make-up.

Q: How much does a trial consultation for the hair cost?
A: $50.

Q: How far in advance should I schedule a trial consultation?
A: We are like most other wedding vendors in that we get booked up to a year in advance; therefore, the sooner you can get in for a consultation, the better. You are not bound to the look you chose, but it is a good idea to work with a hairdresser or make-up artist before booking with them.

Q: What if I live out of state or in another country?
A: Many of our brides come from out of state or from other countries. This makes it quite impossible to do a trial consultation, months to a year, before the wedding. In this case, you need to contact us either by e-mail or preferably by phone. We can discuss the services you are interested in and you can send us a check for a deposit or we can use a credit card to hold the date as well.

Q: How does the bridal portrait work?
A: Because we are strategically located near the most popular portrait sites (such as the McNay, Botanical Gardens, San Antonio Country Club, and downtown) most brides bring their dresses in to the studio. We will work off of your trial consultation file to recreate what you have already selected for hair and make-up. If you want to make any changes, that is no problem, just please let us know before we start working.

Q: How much is the make-up for the bridal portrait?
A: $80.

Q: How much does the hair for the bridal portrait cost?
A: between $70 and $80, depending on the length of the hair and complexity of the style. For shorter hair it is between $50 and $75.

Q: What if I don’t have anyone to take me to my bridal portrait or would like the assistance of a professional that day?
A: We will do the hair and make-up at the studio and then help you get into your dress. The make-up artist will then drive you to the portrait location and stay during the entire shoot. The make-up artist will work as your personal assistant doing touch-ups on your make-up, helping you with your train, and making sure you look your very best for each shot. When the photographer is finished, the make-up artist will drive you back to the studio where you change back into your street clothes. Because this service demands a four hour minimum (also gas expense) on the part of the make-up artist, we charge $275 for the make-up. The hair is not included. Please note: given that this takes up half of the make-up artist’s working day, please give us at least two weeks notice, if you are interested in this service.

Q:How much does it cost for my make-up ( In-house) on my wedding day?
A: $80

Q: How much does it cost for my hair (In-house) on my wedding day?
A: Between $70 and $80. For shorter hair it’s between $50 -$75.

Q. : How does it work for my make-up ( On-location) on my wedding day?
A: We are able to come to the location of your choice. Whether it is the church, hotel or even your own house, we will transform any space into a salon. We can accommodate your entire bridal party, including flower girls, the house party and relatives.

Q: How much does it cost for JUST my make-up on-location for my wedding day?
A: On-location Bridal Make-up application is $150.00, inside city limits.

Q: How much does it cost for my wedding make-up on-location, if I am getting other services done for myself or my bridesmaids?
A: If we come on-location to do any additional hair or make-up for bridesmaids, family members, or flower girls, then the price for bridal make-up drops to $125, inside city limits.

Q: How much does it cost for JUST my hair to be done on-location on my wedding day?
A: If the hairdresser come to you to do just your hair on the wedding day, then the charge is $125, inside city limits.

Q: How much does it cost for my wedding hair to be done on-location, if I am getting other services done for myself or my bridesmaids?
A: If we come on-location to do any additional hair or make-up for bridesmaids, family members, or flower girls, then the price for bridal hair drops to $100, inside city limits.

Q: How much does it cost for the bridal party if they want their hair and make-up done IN-HOUSE on the wedding day?
A: If we do three or less hair or make-up (excluding the bride), then we charge $65 for make-up and $65 for hair. If we do the entire party then we drop the price to $60 for hair and $60 for make-up.

Q: How much does it cost for the bridal party if they want their hair and make-up done ON-LOCATION for the wedding day?
A: If we come out to do three or less additional hair or make-up (excluding the bride), then we charge $70 for each service. If we do the entire bridal party then we drop the price to $65 for hair and $65 for make-up.

Q: Do the bridesmaids or myself have to get hair and make-up?
A: By no means are you required to get both. When you come in for the consultation we discuss the services you and your bridal party are interested in and charge you for those, nothing more.

Q: Will Madame make-up and hair travel outside of San Antonio?
A: Yes. We will charge a travel fee based upon the distance. Given the increase in gas prices, we have to compensate our stylists for traveling, so we charge $50 for each half hour outside the city.

Q: How does it work if I want to bring my party to the studio on the wedding day?
A: This is no problem! Many of our bride’s want the convenience of sending everyone to the same place to get their hair and make-up before the wedding. We allow our bride’s to bring in food and drinks and set it up like a party to make it even more fun for everyone involved. Please just let us know if you are interested in bringing your bridal party into the studio.

Q: Why is it important for the make-up artists and hairdressers to come to us?
A: This is a very simple answer: Stress! On your wedding day there is so much happening that the last thing you want to worry about is fighting traffic to go get your hair done in one place, and your make-up in another. Furthermore, we specialize in working with brides and wedding parties. We customize each look to the client's liking, but we are also experts in how the make-up and hair should be done to get the best results in the pictures. By far the most popular comment made by the brides we work with is: "This is the best thing I could have done for myself on my wedding day!"

Q: What about the payment process?
A: When you come in for the trial consultation, we wait until you have seen our work before booking. At that point we get a non-refundable deposit of $25 to hold your wedding date. We let you pay as you go. For example, you can pay for the engagement or bridal portrait at the time of the services. If your bridal party is paying for their services then we wait until the wedding date to collect from them. We do not allow payment plans for after the wedding. We expect to collect your balance and the bridal parties balance at the completion of services.

Q: How does Madame Make-up & Hair handle refunds?
A: Once we have completed our services, and the bride or bridal party has expressed their satisfaction, then we do not give refunds If there are any problems with the hair or make-up then let us know at the time of service, and we can change it or put you with a different stylist. We can change anything at the time of service, but do not feel it is fair that the client wear the hair and/or make-up to the event and then call for a refund the next week. For this reason, we do not give refunds.

Q: Do you sell Joe Blasco cosmetics?
A: Yes, we do. But it is important that you do not feel compelled to buy them. We love our products and are very proud of them, but you are not going to a cosmetic counter where a purchase is necessary. Madame Make-up and Hair is first and foremost about the service.

* If there are any changes you want made before your wedding day, let us know immediately.  We will be calling you to confirm total head count one (1) week in advance.  We will not allow any additional people on the day of the wedding.  Please let us know as soon as possible if there are any add-ons.

* Please come with your face and hair clean, dry and free from any product.  We will not blow dry hair on the day of the wedding; all this does is take time away from the services we have been asked to perform.

* DO NOT tweeze or wax the day before.  You may run the risk of swelling.

* There will be an additional $20.00 fee added to your account for any appointments before 9:00 a.m.  There will also be an additional travel fee rolled into your balance for on-location services outside of San Antonio.

* Also, prices do not include parking expense for traveling to hotels.

* We are By Appointment Only and we will not run someone else’s appointment behind because you are late.

* The “Leroy” Act:  If you are 15 minutes late to your scheduled time on your wedding day, there will be an additional charge of $50.00 added to your balance.  If you are 30 minutes late, then we will not be able to do the service requested.

* After services are completed, there are NO REFUNDS AT ALL, FOR ANY REASON.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

* We cannot guarantee that it will be the same person the day of the wedding that did your initial consultation.  We very much try to make this happen, however due to the fact we travel on location, there are sometimes complications (such as: traffic, highway construction, external circumstances that are out of our control).  In the event another stylist is called in to perform your service(s), they have been specifically briefed on your file.  All of our stylists have extensive training with Madame Make-up & Hair to fulfill your needs.  Given the on-location demands, we are all skilled at duplicating each other’s work.

* Final payment is due on the day of the wedding or final event.  We do not accept payment plans of any sort.
